Write

It's now time for YOU to answer the essential question. After reading opinions of others, it is your turn to write your opinion for me to read. On the T-chart, jot down some notes to answer the essential question: Is it a moral obligation to practice philanthropy?
  • Include at least 3 good points for each side of the argument. (One argument needs to take the side that thinks philanthropy IS a moral obligation. The other arguement needs to take the position that philanthropy IS NOT a moral obligation.)
  • Support each point with some text evidence from pieces we have read in class. Refer back to your 5-column chart for the positions of other authors and some text to support the positions.
  • Thoroughly explain your evidence and how it supports your point.

Discuss

Just like last class period, I will divide you up into 2 groups: one that thinks philanthropy IS a moral obligation, the other thinking philanthropy IS NOT a moral obligation. You will not know which side you are on until I pull you into the middle- so make sure both of your arguments are sound.

I will bring you into the middle to argue your side of the essential question for 5 minutes. The rest of the class will score the debate groups for points made, evidence used, and explaination of points.
